Conscious Connected Breathwork

Although we can find roots to this practice starting in the late 60’s with the likes of Stanislav Groph’s Holotropic breathwork, this practice, and in many cases ritual, has its origins in ancient cultures, maybe hundreds, if not thousands of years old.

With the many Breathwork practices out there it is helpful to say where the practice of Conscious Connected Breathwork may be different. Firstly this is not the pranayama practices of the Yoga world which are phenomenal and have their prominent place in the healing tree of breathwork. It is also not the practice popularized by Wim Hoff focused on the neuro-immune system. Although Conscious Connected breathwork has some overlap with these practices, it also focuses on accessing the subconscious and deeper patterns in the body-mind-spirit through altered states of awareness/consciousness.

Breathwork Treaments

  • We use a specific connected rhythm and liveliness of the breath to potentially shift the breather into an altered state of consciousness. This altered state allows for greater neuroplasticity and greater access to imagination and creativity. In this place we are able to access old embedded information in the body and psyche and potentially re-write some of these ways that we are with this information. This information may be developmental in nature, or trauma in nature, or both, or something more expansive and experiential.

  • Me and my fellow facilitators’ Breathwork training has been primarily with Numa Somatics, which was founded by Trevor Yelich who I am honoured to teach and collaborate with. In the field of Conscious Connected breathwork, our practice lands more towards the therapeutic side of the spectrum and less towards the experiential and ceremonial side of the spectrum. We work closely with people in low ratio (5:1 & 3:1) group settings, or one to one with several therapeutic tools including skilled specific hands-on work, Somatic Experiencing principles, Hakomi principles, Internal Family Systems Theory principles, as well as others. Our intention is to be skillfully beside you with enough individualized support to help you lean into the hard stuff and come through it lighter, more integrated, and more beautiful than when you entered.

  • Generally we screen all participants to assess for readiness to ensure that you will have a positive experience. If you have had some breathwork or somatic psychotherapy exposure previously then you may be able to join right in. If this is new territory, an initial consult will be required. Either way please contact us if you are interested in starting with us and we can set up an initial connection. If you have journeyed before with us, amazing! Sign up and join in on the next larger group session. If you are wanting to be part of the very low ratio small groups or one on one, please message us and we will get back to you about availability. Myself and my fellow breathwork facilitators look forward to seeing you on the journey.

  • As mentioned above we require people to do a private one on one screening session to assess for readiness for group work. It is recommended that you be currently working with a counsellor, psychotherapist, psychiatrist and/or psychologist and that that professional sees this as a good idea and is willing to connect and collaborate with a member of our facilitation team. Individuals should have some mental health resources in place and be stable enough to work with challenging material through the body interface. Feel free to ask more questions around these requirements.
